Evening Classes Are Back From 24th April

It’s all about Spring!

“A flower blossoms for its own joy.”– Oscar Wilde

During April and May we shall celebrate the arrival of Spring with the changing light and bright fresh colours.

Practicing colour mixing, using light and shade and using a wide range of materials we shall explore the energy of emerging life.

Blossom

In art, spring colours often evoke themes of rebirth and new beginnings, using warm, bright hues like yellows, greens, and soft pinks, alongside blues and purples for a more serene mood. In this workshop we shall focus on spring colours and how artists have portrayed blossom’s vibrant beauty.

Thursday 10th and 11th April 10.30am – 3pm

Abstract colour

Nature’s vibrant and fresh hues as it transitions from winter to spring often inspire spastel spring colours. Soft shades like baby blue, mint green, and blush pink mirror the early springtime flowers and clear skies. Meanwhile, sunny yellows and lush greens are vibrant colours representing the season of new beginnings. We shall take flowers and foliage to inspire our use of colours, line, shapes and form to create exciting abstract artworks in a variety of media.

Thursday 17th and 18th April 10.30am – 3pm

Verdant growth

The depiction of lush, vibrant, and thriving vegetation, often used to symbolize life, resilience, and nature’s beauty, is the focus of our workshops this week. We shall use a variety of drawing materials and look at artists such as da Vinci, Durer, Ruskin, Van Gogh, Freud and contemporary artists who scrutinized and depicted nature in a variety of ways and methods.

Thursday 24th and Friday April 10.30am – 3pm

It’s all about you!

Using the colours, shapes and creative methods you have practised over the past weeks you will now plan and complete your own artwork to celebrate Spring. You will have a wide range of materials to choose from; painting, drawing and even printmaking. You will enjoy capturing the vibrant energy of Spring before the onset of sweltering summer!?!

Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd May 10.30am – 3pm

It’s all about light and weather!

The sun is now back in our lives and the early summer light provides dramatic skies at dawn and dusk together with the ever-changing weather conditions. The next workshops will focus on light and darkness driven by the early summer weather and the emotion of dramatic light in art.

Thursday 8th and Friday 9th May 10.30am – 3pm

It’s all about light and sky!!!

Your use of colours and tone are important in these workshops where you will explore how artists have captured the subtle drama of light conditions at dawn and dusk. We shall use pastels to develop soft and diffuse impressions of light broken by trees or buildings.  Or you may choose to use paint, or even printmaking to create your atmospheric artwork.

Thursday 15th and Friday 16th May 10.30am – 3pm

It’s all about the weather!

It’s tricky to know what to wear at this time of year when we can have wind and rain (and some sun!?) all in one day! This workshop will give you the opportunity to depict figures and animals in different weather conditions using movement and expression to show the weather’s effects both good and bad!

Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd May 10.30am – 3pm

It’s all about impasto painting!

Impasto al a prima painting will be our method of operation this week to give expression to dramatic weather! Using thick impasto acrylic paint, we shall research and design our own paintings in rich contrasting tones and colours, painting directly and confidently. We shall also look at how artists have painted cloud formations and dramatic skies.

Thursday 29th and Friday 30th May 10.30am – 3pm

It’s over to you!

Over the last few weeks, we have explored many aspects of light and weather in a wide range of methods and materials. This week is your turn to choose your own weather focus, methods and materials to compose and create your own dramatic light filled masterpiece!
