Skies
Skies are an important part of landscape paintings, setting the tone of the scene as a whole and often representing the dominant feature of the composition. They create the light and atmosphere in all media and can easily ruin a picture or look separate to the scene. In these workshops we shall learn about more than just clouds and blue sky by studying the masters of skies throughout Art History and how to portray dramatic weather and light.

Sea
The continuing movement and rhythm of the sea has always been a huge challenge to artists – not to mention the waves! We will have an amazing time capturing the energy, power and majesty of the sea and waves in paint – could get messy! (see Maggie Hambling!).

Sky and water
In these workshops we shall be putting sky and sea, or water, together in a single image. The tricky part is making it a complete picture with the light from the sky illuminating the sea or body of water. Great colour combinations can be used to show weather and atmospheric conditions and give drama to your landscapes.

Over to you
Now its your turn to design and create your own sea and sky artwork in the medium of your choice – oils, watercolour, acrylics or even printmaking. Using what we have learnt the emphasis will be on light and dramatic atmosphere that landscapes can provide. Or you may choose to finish artworks with final flourishes of drama!
